Aspen truly is a jewel set amidst the Colorado Rocky Mountains and it offers year round opportunities for vacationing and weekend escapes. It sits south of Red Mountain and is unsurpassed in its beautiful, wilderness surroundings.

During recent years Aspen has become a magnet for international jet-setters, many of whom have set up second homes there. If you happen to be a ‘star gazer’, numerous famous actors and sports personalities are frequent visitors throughout the year. To accommodate these new residents, Aspen’s downtown has been transformed with upscale shopping areas replete with art galleries, boutiques such as Gucci and Prada, high end restaurants and a winter concert series. It is indeed glamorous and vibrant.

Of course, it is best known for its amazing skiing, and the Aspen season usually lasts more than 151 days and embraces over 5,300 acres of terrain including four mountains and 43 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails. There are four separate ski areas and the views from all of them are spectacular. You can also snowboard, snowmobile, or take a dog sled or snowshoe tour. Even hot air balloon rides can provide visitors with a unique perspective of the whole area.

Skiing aside, when the summer months arrive with their picture perfect weather, Aspen steps out a whole new repertoire of attractions for its visitors. Whitewater rafting on the Colorado River, rock climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, treetop souring and canopy tours, horseback riding, and of course golf, tennis and fishing are all available. The Silver Queen Gondola ski lifts operate year round and during the summer moths will carry you more than 3,000 feet up to the 11,212 ft high summit of Aspen mountain from where panoramic views across Aspen are not to be missed.

Once at the summit, there are a number of hiking trails to enjoy as well as dining at the Sundeck restaurant. For children the summit also offers a climbing wall trampoline and nature hikes.

Take a trip to 12,095 ft high Independence Pass and you will be rewarded with an enchanting panorama of breathtaking beauty across mountain meadows and sparkling streams surrounded by snow capped peaks. It’s a view that will remain in your memory for ever.

Of course, before any of this can become possible, you will need somewhere to stay. One that has perfect location coupled with true luxury is Aspen Rental Homes and is one of the finest property rentals in the area. It’s designer furnishings, location just a short walk from town and views of Aspen Mountain make it a gem.

Marla Jo Fisher, a Staff Writer for the Orange County Register contacted me yesterday to draw my attention to a really excellent article she had written about Home Exchanging. Clearly Marla Jo is a very experienced and knowledgeable home exchanger and I strongly advise everyone to click the link I’ve provided to read it in full.

She explains the concept of Home Exchanging beautifully and has even included details on one less than perfect exchange she made. She has visited some delightful places and struck up a number of enduring friendships.

It’s time for vacation. Your house or mine?

Home exchanges are a good way to see places you otherwise couldn’t afford.

I almost had to pinch myself to believe it was true. We were sleeping in an apartment on the Italian Riviera, one of the world’s most expensive playgrounds. And we were doing it for free.

We’ve recently been contacted by a tv production company (the first this “season”), asking if we could put them in touch with two sets of members about to embark on a home exchange, between either the USA and London, or USA and Paris. The tv company is based in New York so they would definitely prefer it if the US home could be located within their reach.

Immediately I received the request, I emailed as many likely exchangers as I could find on the ExchangeHomes.com database, but so far I haven’t had a positive response. A couple of members replied, volunteering to participate, but their home swaps are not until August and September and this tv company’s deadline is May 12th—just a week from today.

It’s unfortunate that the media’s schedules don’t allow us more time. Each year we receive requests similar to this one, and if only they would give us a month’s notice as opposed to a week or less (one newspaper last year phoned on a Friday and wanted a story for Sunday’s edition!), we might stand a better chance of accommodating them.

Anyway, I know this blog has a readership way beyond our ExchangeHomes.com members, so if anyone reading is already on, or about to leave on a home swap as I’ve indicated, please call me toll free at 877-256-3323 and I’ll put you in touch with the tv company.
