Home Exchange Works For Renters Too
Home Exchange Blog
A question we are frequently asked is whether someone who rents their home can participate in a home exchange. ExchangeHomes.Com doesn’t care whether you own or rent the home you plan to exchange, but we are very concerned that if you do rent, you make your landlord absolutely clear about your intentions BEFORE you begin making any arrangements with fellow members.
We strongly recommend that you put your plans in writing. Explain exactly what a home swap vacation entails, and have you landlord sign that he or she agrees with this arrangement.

Never reach the point where plans are being finalized with a home exchange partner, only to discover that your landlord will not give his permission. Or, even worse, NEVER make a home exchange without informing your landlord, leaving your partner open to being discovered living in your home.
Once they understand exactly what home swapping is, the vast majority of landlords are happy to agree. Explain that insurance companies love the concept because it means a home is never left empty and vulnerable during vacations.
ExchangeHomes.Com has at least one member who has successfully exchanged at least four times to our knowledge, from four different rental properties.
Just be open and up front with your landlord and you shouldn’t have any problems.
